How to Spend a Perfect Day in Canggu, Bali

Is Canggu on your Bali itinerary? Cause it should be! It’s full of tasty cafes, green rice fields, and chill beaches! It’s no wonder it’s quickly becoming the hippest place in Bali (for better or worse). One of our favorite things to do anywhere we travel is eat, and the healthy food in Canggu is on point!

For that reason alone it’s a place we’ll return to. We’ve visited a few times now and it’s always been a memorable destination, with new things to discover every visit. Here’s how to spend a fun day in Canggu!

Start Your Day With Breakfast at Shady Shack

The Shady Shack embodies everything we love about Canggu! Cruise up on your scooter, grab a seat outside, kick back, and relax. It’s the perfect start to any morning! Sip on a hot latte while overlooking rice fields right across the street.

We really enjoyed their smoothie bowls, teas, avocado toast, and creative sparkling sodas. It’s a popular spot for breakfast so try to arrive early!

Surf at Batu Bolong Beach in Canggu

This may not be the most picturesque beach you’ll ever see, but you’ll have a hard time finding one with better vibes. It was our go-to beach in Canggu! There’s a nice surf break that suits surfers of all levels.

For beginners, it’s best to go out at low tide, with rentals costing 50k IDR for two hours. Lessons are also available. If you’re not into surfing, it’s still a nice spot to throw down a towel or rent an umbrella chair and sip a fresh coconut.

Have a Healthy Lunch at Betelnut Cafe (Closed)

Make your way here for lunch after some quality time at the beach!

The food at Betelnut Cafe is super healthy and if you come once, you’ll likely be back again and again! If you’re a veg head the big betelnut salad (i.e. four salads in one) and the naga bowl are spectacular.  If you’re a meat-eater their burgers and tacos are solid too!

We also appreciate their efforts to have a positive impact on the environment. They use biodegradable straws and have a water refill station.

Shop at Love Anchor

Work off your food baby by wandering this new family-owned complex. Love Anchor is a good spot to get those unique souvenirs, swimsuits, and jewelry. It’s nice to know you’re supporting local brands. Add some new items to your wardrobe or just enjoy window shopping to kill an hour before eating again!

Explore the Local Rice Paddies of Canggu

No trip to Canggu would be complete without wandering the rice fields. They may not be as dramatic as the more famous rice fields in Ubud, but they’re still perfect for sunset or for getting creative. Keep an eye out for kids flying kites or friendly locals working in the paddies.

Old Man’s for Happy Hour

Old Man’s Batu Bolong Beach

Located on Batu Bolong Beach, this is the perfect spot to grab a drink or a bite to eat after sunbathing or catching some waves! Old Man’s has a 2 for 1 happy hour daily from 5-6pm.

It’s smart to show up early, it seems to fill up around this time. Don’t forget to check their schedule when you’re there, they occasionally have live music and groovy DJ sets!

Warung Bu Mi for Balinese Food

End the day at one of the best warungs we’ve eaten at! Choose your own adventure and pick whatever you wish from a large selection of Balinese eats. There are fantastic options for vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters alike.

During our two trips to Bali, we’ve found local warungs offer the most bang for your buck. Stop by Warung Bu Mi for an inexpensive meal that will make your tastebuds dance!

For a nightcap consider hitting Deus Ex Machina for live music or a craft cocktail. We hope you enjoy your time in Canggu!
